What is the best supercharger kit?
Getting a new supercharger for your vehicle means adding a fair bit of performance and driveability to it. Choosing the right one is key to achieving that. And our list pretty much covers the best choices on the market. Sitting at the top of the list is the Roush Performance supercharger. It’s made for Ford, is compatible with both manual and automatic gearbox vehicles, and can help the engine make up to 670 hp. Which is insane levels of power from anything that’s not a supercar.
The other choices include the Edelbrock E-Force supercharger for 6.4 HEMI engined vehicles. Made for competition racing, it can help the engine produce up to 688 hp at the rear wheels. Wow! The Rotrex Black Series is one of the largest of its kind, designed for engine sizes between 1.8 liters and 3 liters, and is claimed to help the engine deliver up to 425 hp. Looking at vehicle-specific ‘chargers, and you have the Kraftwerks Performance Group Supercharger made for the Honda Civic. The bolt-on installation kit can help the Civic deliver up to 380 hp at the wheel.
For the Toyota Tacoma, there’s the TRD supercharger. It fits with all the OEM connections but can add up to 304 hp. If you’ve got the Honda S2k, you’ll appreciate the Kraftwerks’ supercharger made specifically for the car. The Rotrex supercharger can help the engine produce 400 hp at the wheel. If you’ve got a Mazda Miata, then you can take a look at the Edelbrock 15540 supercharger kit. It’s said to increase the 2-liter Skyactive engine’s power by 198 hp. For the Nissan 350Z, there’s the Vortech kit and for Chevrolet applications, you can take a look at the Weiand supercharger kit. The latter is said to increase power and torque by 25 – 40 percent.
FAQ
Since the compression ratio of an engine is directly related to the boost, you run. The higher the compression ratio, (e.g. 9.5:1 or 10:1) the smaller the boost you will run.
Now, to fully comprehend this concept, you must understand that the compression ratio built into an engine (known as “static compression”) when combined with the boost you are running, results in the “Effective Compression Ratio.”
The “good” window for supercharged compression ratio is around 8 to 9:1.
There are some online calculations to equate an ECR, but here is an example showing you how to calculate this ratio. Remember the lower the ratio, the higher the boost, and the higher the ratio, the more chance of engine detonation knocking.
